Nothing Changes Under The Sun is another wonderful product from the Eighteenth Street Lounge Music label. Blue States was discovered by the D.C.-based Eighteenth Street flagship act, Thievery Corporation. While Blue States shares Thievery's talent for coming up with wicked ghetto beats and then layering very non-ghetto sounds over the top, Blue States has a differing result. Thievery Corporation mixes hip-hop beats with a worldly sort of sound - sitars, bongos and French vocals all on the same track - while Blue States holds a bit of indie rock. There is a very bluesy track toward the end of the album as well as some very jazzy tracks throughout. Some of these are really the album's highlights. Occasionally the band gets a bit too close to Portishead with its compositions when it get heavy on the string sections, but all in all this is a very, VERY good album.
