CHEMICAL BROTHERS
COME WITH US
ASTRALWERKS
Dance music comes in all shapes and sounds: trance, house, jungle, microhouse, glitch, yadayada - all seemingly related in concept; faceless technicians with way too much time on their hands, revelling in the creative possibilities provided by their Macintosh laptops. But even in this world of pseudo-personality disorders, Chemical Brothers continue to carve a distinctive groove with their honest-to-god sense of humanity. Their fourth LP actually uses acoustic guitars (!) as the basis of most of the tracks. By programming "organic" sounds with digital technology, the Chemicals achieve a kind of acoustic trance; tracks like "Star Guitar" and "Hoops" almost sound man-made at times. House music for people who don't get into house music, this record will shake the dance floors - which is really the ultimate goal.-AW
