Injury Loves Melody
Hollywood
Rating: 3 Flaming Goat Heads

Diffuser knows the inherent danger of being labeled as just another pop rock band; the NYC quartet has attempted to avoid the stigma by constructing above-average arrangements and lyrics, and even changing their long-time name from Flu Thirteen to avoid joining the flock of numerically named bands. However, all of their efforts may be stymied if radio gets too tight of a grasp on Diffuser's lead single, "Karma," a very standard pop snapshot that only serves to blur Diffuser's bigger picture. Worth a listen are the adventurous "I Don't Have The Nerve" and "35," which feature Industrial production gimmicks and wicked guitar noises peppering their classic rock meets indie rock songs. Although not an immediate standout like STP or Pearl Jam, Diffuser shows promise of an ability to break from the radio mash, but not with this album. Maybe their next.-Cliff Frantz
