Drench
Bad Weather
Grand Rapids, MI

Drench combines the groove-based melodic arrangements of slicker bands like 311 and Incubus with heavier, scream-reliant, Drowning Pool-esque poundings - a synthesis most affably achieved with the songs "Get Up" and "Strings," where the band's unique wah-wah guitar riffs and delicate, intricate vocals yield comfortably to Sevendustist spats of weighty instrumentation. Other songs such as "Pencil Scratchins" and "Chains" make more loyal commitments to either musical path, with less pleasing results. Quick-fingered guitar harmonic grabs and vocally simulated CD scratching are ear-catchers, but so are some moderately uncomfortable tempo changes. In time, Drench could be a top local act.
