If one were to pass judgment by track three, "Girlfriend Is Worse" - with it's Devo-esque juxtaposition and brilliant non-linear dual guitars - you'd think these East Coasters were putting the clever back into punk-rock. It's not that simple. Axe-wielding brothers Shahin and Shahryar Motia's songs are brief, pissy, and sexual, with track lengths kept under two minutes. Ex Models has a secret knowledge about how to make screwed-up arrangements work. Following in the path-less-traveled indie-rock format of bands like No Means No and Scratch Acid, Other Mathematics is a fun album (check out the 49-second train wreck, "The Idea of Peter North"). This isn't marbles in a blender. This is the fresh-face of rock n' roll simulation.-BO
