The Get Up Kids
Eudora
Vagrant Records
Long gone are the days when punk rock meant to challenge and threaten the establishment. Bands like the Dead Kennedys and Minor Threat would probably be a bit irked by the Get Up Kids; imagine Ian McKaye or Jello Biafra belting out a gee golly version of Bowie's "Suffragette City." HA! That was then, this is now, and actually, this kind of punk isn't all bad. Eudora is a collection of rareties, outtakes and covers. Songs orignially recorded by The Pixies, The Cure, New Order, Motley Crue, and The Replacements are all represented here in true Get Up Kids fashion - loud, fast and way happy. Too bad that by positioning their songs next to classic punk anthems like "Beer For Breakfast" or "Alec Eiffel," the band makes painfully obvious its own shortcomings-AW
