Wisely ignoring the studio indulgence that often steers three-piece studio projects into lushly layered sapfests, Headmusic masterfully captures this Grand Rapids band's raw live power. Somehow shoring deep rhythm pockets within even 180 beat-per-minute tempos, Head hints at punk and hardcore influences only enough to compromise rock into a perverse in-between category: Headmusic. Lyrically solid, singer Benjamin Hunter's Toadies meets Ben Folds vocal lines deliver some real zingers - "The victors pre-decided a prescription for your eyelids" ("Antidote") questions government policy while "Washed up lives clinging to a lullaby" ("Pipe Bomb") jabs certain local celebrities with unbridled verve.
