Rollins in the Wry is an engaging compilation of excerpts from four 'stand-up' shows that feature Henry Rollins. Should you buy it? Yes, of course you should. It says 'Henry Rollins' on it, doesn't it? Will you enjoy it? Most assuredly - as much as you've enjoyed all of his spoken word and music albums, books, movies and other shenanigans since the 1980s. After making fun of anyone who takes the stage to recite, Rollins begins the first show with a few recitations, including amusing excerpts from his journal. He covers with much humor and insight such topics as the word and definition skills of Clinton; being on an indie tour and starving; gay guys (respectfully); the experience of being a consumer at Rite Aid; visiting the Holy Land of Jerusalem; fucking women (fucking as an exclamation, not an adjective or a verb); and how the music of his (our) generation is heavier, for perhaps the first time in memorable history, than that of the generation that follows. Because of his thorough understanding of language and his expressive style of speech, he is able to stay on the track he's created, and also throw in cleverly funny asides without losing anyone. Rollins' diction is wonderful. He is self-mocking without being self-deprecating. Humble but not meek. It's obvious from this and every other of his many recordings that Rollins appreciates the value and power of the word.-Kim Briggs
