MILLION YEN
BLUE TELEVISION WINDOWS
VERONICA RECORDS
What's this? A good Chicago-based rock quartet? All right, there's probably more than a few, but this is the yardstick amongst rulers. The lyrics have a purpose. The guitar is loud. The hooks are actual hooks. Given that information, you can guess what you get: a damn good rock-record. I think given the chance to travel back in time to the late 80s/early 90s, Million Yen would have made a good Twin Tone Records-era Minnesota rock band (Replacements, Husker Du, pre-suck Soul Asylum). Million Yen is one band that doesn't have to worry about sharing space with the throng of bland pop purveyors loitering within earshot. I don't need to see a photo to know how they wear their pants. Buy it.-BO
