 Everything Is is a four-song single on Orange Twin Records (an interesting music cooperative based in Athens, Ga.), and should be treated as such. It's extremely low-fidelity, with noisy acoustic guitar and distorted bass, driven forward by filthy percussion and enveloped by Mangum's doubly voice. Conspicuously missing is the southern dirge of the horn section. "Tuesday Moon," "Everything Is" and "Snow Song Pt. I" are as catchy as herpes. "Aunt Eggma Blowtorch" is self-indulgent noise with nasal tape recorder warbling ala Kermit the Frog. If you've never heard of Neutral Milk Hotel, buy In the Aeroplane over the Sea first - this release is more for the true music geeks to stock their collections.-BO
