Ozomatli
Embrace the Chaos
Interscope
Ozomatli combines Afro-Cuban rhythms, Latin sounds, and a HipHop mentality into something that literally jumps out at you and forces you to samba. This record takes itself a little more seriously than their debut; the songs are now allowed to stand on their own merits rather than rely on genre-hopping shifts. The composition itself is given more thought - the rap songs are strictly that, the Latin jams stay Latin. The resulting sound reflects confidence. Tracks like "Mi Alma" and "Timido" recall Los Lobos or early Santana in their structure and flow while guest artists like Common and De La Soul provide instant credibility on the HipHop tracks. This is an extremely feel good LP.-AW
