Amnesiac
Capitol
Rating: 4 Flaming Goat Heads
Directly on the heels of the cult hit Kid A, Radiohead has released Amnesiac, a collection of new material and alternate versions of previously released songs. Not quite the artistic effort of its predecessor, Amnesiac does manage to deliver a large handful of very thoughtful and emotional songs that are well written, combining pop sensibility with the artistry that Radiohead has defined for itself in recent years. Songs such as the single, "I Might Be Wrong," offer the listener the catchy radio hook that Kid A was criticized for lacking, while songs like "Pyramid Song" are reminiscent of early '70s art rock pioneers such as King Crimson while still providing the cult Radiohead fan with that patented Radiohead weirdness. Although the album doesn't move along with the flow or cohesiveness of the well-arranged Kid A, Amnesiac is still a worthy effort, especially by today's medial listening standards, with a handful of "must have" songs.
