Heavyweight Championship of West Michigan
Recorded live at Intersection during the highly successful and controversial Heavyweight Championship competition, this disc features seven of the event's eight semi-finalists. Roosterfish opens the poundfest with "Low," a bone-crushing stomp that manages to find room for both groove and mood while giving a good representation of Roosterfish's energy. Trudg and Thunder Chicken follow suit with respective renditions of "Tombstone" and "Stump." The disc's highlight, Two Heded Chan's "Forked Tongue," follows; Mike Kotecki's vocal dynamics and drummer Mike Pollack's monster chops stand out on this technically impressive collection. Stylistically, Kamilla (with "When Planes Go Down") and Drench (with "Strings") offer the most uniqueness. The eventual winners, Sadomasochism, close the disc with the frighteningly technical dirge, "Rotting Corpse."-Cliff Frantz
