ROCK MUSIC: A TRIBUTE TO WEEZER
DEADDROID RECORDS
Initially this seems like a strange idea - usually, tribute projects focus on a band whose moment has passed. Weezer defies this convention, as they do most others. Their long awaited return to the rock world last year proved that maybe the alterna/grunge boom that was the 1990s was not a complete waste of time; nowadays, hundreds of bands can be linked to Weezer's semi-original blend of crunch/pop power chords and bleeding heart diatribes. Sadly, the compilation features mostly unknown bands and yields mostly disappointing results, save Christopher John's slo-core rendition of "The World Has Turned" and Mock Orange's nearly unrecognizable stab at "Only In Dreams." Bottom line: nobody really does Weezer like Weezer.-AW
