Even though this 10-song set features some serious star power in the form of guest rockers Stephen Richards (of Taproot) and Clint Lowery (of Sevendust), the real superstar here is Darling Down frontwoman Amanda Legault. Go ahead: compare her to Evanescence’s Amy Lee, or even former Flyleaf vocalist Lacey Sturm, and she shines just as brightly in the spotlight, belting out classically-inspired ballads like “Empty Nights” with the same power and emotion that she brings to the heavy-hitting, one-two punch of opening tracks “Pressure” and “Collide.” The guys in the band bring it too, locking down their own riff-centric sound throughout, while exploring a surprising range of sounds, including an strikingly somber acoustic version of the album’s EDM-influenced standout “Scars.” — Eric Mitts
