Who are you?!
Doomed couple Leana Harrison and Derek Fredricks.

Couple's resolve to communicate more openly can lead to no good

Phoenix, Ariz. – Sources close to Derek Fredricks and Leana Harrison reported this week that the young couple’s inspired post-fight resolution to communicate in a more frequent, candid and straightforward manner can lead to no good.

Opponents of the July 26 decree said that although they applaud the lovers’ significant effort to facilitate an open relationship — one in which borderline-risky information or conversation topics are willingly shared without fear of heated contest — they harbor tremendous doubt that the uncensored airing of previously suppressed thoughts will improve the couple’s already turbulent relationship.

“I don’t necessarily think Derek and Leana’s decision to be more open with each other was a good one,” said Harold Lot, Fredricks’ best friend since childhood. “Derek often confides [information] to me that I’d bet dollars to doughnuts would send Leana into a tizzy if she heard one word about it. Nothing big, like affairs or anything, but just little shit that is probably best left not even mentioned because of the can of worms it could open up. Now he’s supposed to just mention this stuff to her and vice-versa? No way, man.”

Added Lot: “That’s the sort of idea that looks good on paper but fails in practical application.”

Harrison’s close friend Mary Eckert agreed with Lot’s assessment.

“The first time Derek offhandedly says something like, ‘I just imagined your sister naked,’ you know, trying to stick to this ‘full disclosure’ rule, Leana’s going to freak,” said Eckert. “But according to this new always-verbally-express-the-full-contents-of-your-brain idea, that’s exactly the kind of stuff Derek is allowed — and in a way, encouraged – to say.”

According to Fredricks, the couple’s doomed resolve materialized following a two-hour dispute concerning the 31-year-old’s reluctance to discuss previous relationships with Harrison.

“Leana was mad because I didn’t want to answer a bunch of bullshit questions about old girlfriends,” said Fredricks. “I thought I was doing the right thing by just not even getting into a conversation about it. It seemed like the kind of touchy subject that could lead to an argument. Go figure.”

Harrison, 29, said she suggested the couple disclose information more openly in an attempt to minimize miscommunication and the harboring of resentments.

“I told Derek that I thought we could avoid a lot of arguments if he would just be open and honest with me about everything,” said Harrison. “After about another hour he agreed to try it my way. And I already tell Derek everything. Everything.”
