Drinking Mercury Orcades
Drinking Mercury, a quartet of dudes from Ionia County, have put together an album which drags the ‘90s back into the spotlight with fuzzy guitars and lo-fi, low key rock ‘n’ roll. Humble warbly vocals dance over the jangly guitars and noisy recording quality. The songs really hang together despite taking their time to arc in their four-minute time frame. The Pavement plus Decemberists vibe of their material has a grim self-indulgent sincerity without pretense, and the sound of each song is varied, ensuring a listening experience for which you can maintain interest in from end to end.
