Rick Beerhorst A Little Piece of the Pie
There are some interesting things happening on local artist/singer/songwriter Rick Beerhorst’s album. Beerhorst’s voice raggedly croons strange- and image-driven lyrics, carrying the Americana-style tunes with uncommon authority. The different textures on each song are as eclectic as the lyrics, and it is truly surprising how listenable the disc is in spite of its autistic oddity. The liner notes suggest Beerhorst had a lot of help from the likes of local art and music fixtures Rick Devon, Seth Thompson, Karisa Wilson and Hugo Claudin, and the art of collaboration seems to have produced some good fruit.
